Younes Ebnoutalib Explains Why Jürgen Klopp Convinced Him to Choose Germany

Younes Ebnoutalib has opted to represent Germany after attracting interest from Morocco, with the presence of Jürgen Klopp emerging as a major factor in the 23-year-old striker’s decision.

The Eintracht Frankfurt forward had been in contact with Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi, but the opportunity to work with Klopp ultimately influenced his international choice.

“When Klopp calls you, you have to go to him,” Ebnoutalib said, explaining why the new Germany setup helped shape his decision.

A connection to both countries

Despite committing his international future to Germany, Ebnoutalib stressed that his relationship with Morocco remains important.

“I love both countries. Both represent my homeland, and I will always wish Morocco the best,” he said.

His comments underline the personal dimension behind an international football decision that has attracted attention on both sides.

Included in Klopp’s first Germany squad

Ebnoutalib has been selected by Klopp for his first Germany squad, which is preparing for upcoming Nations League fixtures against the Netherlands and Greece.

The striker is among the few natural centre-forwards included in the group, alongside Kai Havertz. That profile could give him an opportunity to make his international debut sooner rather than later.

Ebnoutalib, however, remains focused on earning his chance rather than anticipating a specific role.

“I don't know anything about that yet. I'm simply trying to give my best and hope to get plenty of playing time,” he said.

Strong start with Eintracht Frankfurt

The call-up comes after an impressive opening to the Bundesliga season for Ebnoutalib. He had scored four goals in his first four league appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt before joining the Germany squad.

His early-season form has therefore coincided with a significant turning point in his career, as he begins his first senior international adventure with Germany.

For Klopp, meanwhile, Ebnoutalib represents one of the attacking options available as he begins shaping a Germany team following its disappointing elimination in the last World Cup.
