United States restricts air travel from DR Congo amid Ebola outbreak
The United States has introduced temporary travel restrictions affecting American citizens departing from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) as health authorities respond to the country's ongoing Ebola outbreak.
According to US officials, American citizens who have recently been in the affected areas may face restrictions on boarding flights to the United States until they complete a 21-day observation period in a third country. The measure is intended to reduce the risk of international transmission while allowing health officials to monitor for possible symptoms.
The decision comes as the Ebola outbreak continues to expand in parts of DR Congo, with health authorities reporting a growing number of confirmed infections and fatalities. Medical teams remain engaged in surveillance, contact tracing, treatment, and vaccination efforts to contain the spread of the virus.
Ebola is a severe viral disease that spreads through direct contact with the blood or bodily fluids of an infected person or contaminated materials.
