Ukrainian troops strengthen defenses as fighting intensifies in Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad
Ukrainian forces continue to hold their positions in the embattled cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad despite an escalating series of Russian assaults that have intensified in recent days. Military officials reported that Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces repelled numerous attacks on positions north of Pokrovsk, with no significant territorial changes recorded. The defense line remains firm, preventing Russian units from advancing toward the nearby town of Hryshyne, a location considered strategically important for regional logistics.
In Myrnohrad, Ukrainian troops comprising marines and air assault units remain engaged in fierce battles as Russian forces attempt to break through from both the northeast and the south. Ukrainian officials said the enemy has turned to information warfare to compensate for the lack of progress on the ground, spreading false claims about capturing the city. Ukraine’s General Staff dismissed these statements as propaganda directed at a domestic Russian audience seeking to maintain morale as the New Year approaches.
Independent assessments, including geolocated footage reviewed by military analysts, indicate that Russian units have managed only limited infiltration efforts in parts of Myrnohrad, with no evidence of control over the area. The Institute for the Study of War noted that Ukrainian bombardments have continued to target Russian groups attempting to consolidate positions within the city’s outskirts.
As part of wider reinforcement efforts, Ukraine has strengthened supply lines running between Svitle and Rivne, ensuring steady logistical support for forward positions. The 38th Marine Brigade reportedly thwarted several infiltration attempts in southeastern Myrnohrad, reinforcing the stability of the defensive perimeter. According to official data, Ukrainian forces repelled thirty-two attacks in the Pokrovsk sector in a single day, out of more than 160 combat engagements recorded across the front on December 27. Despite sustained Russian pressure, Ukrainian commanders insist their troops remain in control, turning back repeated offensives with precision and resilience.
