Ukraine explores gas supplies from Mozambique amid global energy crisis
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks on Monday with Mozambican counterpart Daniel Chapo to explore potential gas supplies to Ukraine, as the country seeks alternatives amid a global energy crisis.
Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s interest in securing additional energy resources, while Mozambique expressed interest in Ukraine’s expertise and technology to enhance internal security and protect citizens from terrorism.
The discussions also touched on potential cooperation in digitization and food security, reflecting a broader agenda for bilateral collaboration.
The need for new energy sources has become urgent after Europe, Ukraine’s main energy supplier, faced disruptions following a US-Israel military operation in Iran that temporarily blocked the Strait of Hormuz. Approximately 20 million barrels of oil pass through the strait daily, and its closure has led to higher global oil prices and concerns about prolonged energy market instability.
