Uber Strengthens Passenger Safety Globally
Uber has implemented measures to enhance the protection of its customers, allowing them to choose up to four safety preferences, such as encrypted audio recordings, PIN verification, and real-time location sharing. These measures are in response to concerns about passenger safety, with complaints ranging from alleged assaults by Uber drivers.
The company has come under scrutiny for its handling of assault cases, from the lack of driver background checks to inadequate safety training. In 2022, approximately 3,800 serious sexual assaults were reported in the United States in 2019 and 2020, a decrease from previous years.
These security measures are currently available in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, with plans to expand to other countries in the coming weeks.
