Trump rules out Vice-Presidential run in 2028, Says GOP has “Promising Candidates”

U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed speculation that he might seek the vice presidency in the 2028 U.S. election, saying such a move would be “too cute” and unconstitutional.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on October 27, Trump firmly ruled out the idea, which had been circulating among some of his supporters as a potential way to bypass the constitutional limit that prevents a president from serving more than two elected terms.

Some allies had proposed a scenario in which another Republican would run for president with Trump as their running mate, only to step down once elected — effectively returning Trump to the Oval Office.

While rejecting that notion, Trump praised his party’s future prospects, saying the Republican Party would have a “promising slate of candidates” in 2028. He mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice-President JD Vanceas possible contenders, both of whom were present during the informal media session.

Despite the constitutional ban, Trump has not entirely ruled out seeking a third term, repeatedly suggesting that “people want him to continue.” His remarks are likely to fuel further debate within the GOP as it looks beyond his presidency.
