Trump Blames Biden and Harris for Assassination Attempt, Claims Lack of Secret Service Protection

Donald Trump has accused President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of being responsible for the failed assassination attempt against him last month, attributing the incident to their alleged interference with Secret Service operations. In a recent appearance on "Dr. Phil," Trump criticized the Biden administration, claiming it had weaponized the justice department against him and caused staffing issues within the Secret Service.

The incident occurred on July 13, when a 20-year-old gunman opened fire during a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The attack resulted in the death of a rally attendee and injuries to two others before the assailant was shot dead by a Secret Service officer. In the aftermath, several agents from the Pittsburgh field office were placed on administrative leave, and Trump asserted that the Biden administration's actions had compromised his security.

Trump's allegations include claims that Biden and Harris made it difficult for the Secret Service to provide adequate protection by undermining the agency's staffing and resources. Despite these claims, there is no evidence linking Biden or Harris directly to any security lapses or attempts to interfere with the Secret Service’s operations.

Following the shooting, the Secret Service acknowledged that Trump's security detail had previously raised concerns about insufficient protection and personnel. In response, the agency increased its protection for Trump, reallocating agents from Biden's campaign security.

Trump's comments are his most direct yet regarding the administration's supposed role in the attack. He had previously suggested on social media that the Biden administration failed in its duty to protect him, framing the incident as a consequence of political rhetoric and alleged government overreach.

The FBI has stated that the gunman acted alone and found no evidence of ideological motives behind the attack. Trump’s assertions about the Biden administration's role echo earlier unfounded claims he made about being targeted by government agencies, including accusations against the FBI related to a raid on his Mar-a-Lago residence.

The Harris campaign has yet to respond to these allegations.
