Transforming Casablanca-Settat for a Global Experience

Abdellatif Maâzouz, President of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Council, recently emphasized the region’s commitment to delivering an unforgettable experience for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. During the second edition of the National Conference on Advanced Regionalization, he confidently stated that Casablanca and its surroundings are fully prepared to host the global event, thanks to strategic and ambitious infrastructure projects underway.

Maâzouz highlighted the region’s transformation efforts to turn Casablanca into a modern, sustainable hub. A key development is the construction of an international-level stadium, alongside the modernization of road infrastructure linking the airport, training grounds, and other strategic sites. He revealed that 6 billion dirhams have already been invested to enhance these facilities, with an additional 5 billion dirhams allocated to meet the specific demands of hosting the World Cup.

In line with sustainable mobility goals, the region has launched several major initiatives. The new tramway lines 3 and 4, as well as the Busway system, will expand the public transportation network to 100 kilometers across Greater Casablanca. Additionally, the Regional Express Network (RER), set to add another 100 kilometers, will ensure seamless connections across the region.

Maâzouz explained that the goal is to provide accessible, safe, and environmentally friendly public transportation to reduce reliance on private vehicles and encourage sustainable mobility. These efforts are focused on offering convenient, affordable, and frequent services that improve access to key areas for residents.

Another critical aspect of the region’s infrastructure improvements includes tackling congestion at Casablanca’s main entry points, such as Mohammedia and Nouaceur. New dispatch nodes are being developed along major highways, with a partnership with the National Railways Office (ONCF) aimed at enhancing rail mobility to provide modern, efficient transport solutions.

These projects, Maâzouz emphasized, align with the Royal Guidelines for Regional Development and are part of a broader vision to create a model for urban planning and sustainable mobility. Through collaboration with various stakeholders, Casablanca-Settat is working towards becoming a leader in regional development.

“We aim to make daily life for the citizens of Casablanca and the surrounding region defined by efficient, accessible public transportation solutions. These initiatives will help lower costs, reduce pollution, and improve quality of life,” Maâzouz concluded. The 2030 World Cup, he noted, presents a unique opportunity to accelerate this transformation.

With these initiatives in motion, the Casablanca-Settat region is positioning itself as a key player in territorial development, setting a high standard for strategic preparation for a major international event.
