Trafigura secures gold supply deal with Ghana’s Bogoso-Prestea mine
Global commodities trader Trafigura has signed an agreement to purchase gold output from the Bogoso-Prestea mine in Ghana, marking a significant step in its expansion within Africa’s mining sector.
The deal includes the acquisition of gold dore, a semi-refined product, from the mine’s operations, with deliveries expected to begin in the near term. In addition to securing supply, Trafigura is also providing financial support to help restart and develop mining activities at the site.
The Bogoso-Prestea mine, operated by a Ghanaian-owned company, recently resumed production after a period of inactivity. The restart highlights renewed momentum in the country’s mining industry, which remains a key pillar of Ghana’s economy.
By entering into this agreement, Trafigura strengthens its position in the global gold market while supporting local production capabilities. The partnership also reflects a broader trend of international firms collaborating with African mining operators to unlock resource potential.
Industry observers note that such agreements can bring mutual benefits, combining global market access and financing with local expertise and resource ownership. For Ghana, the deal may contribute to increased export revenues and job creation.
As demand for gold continues to fluctuate in response to global economic conditions, strategic partnerships like this are expected to play an important role in shaping the future of the mining sector across Africa.
