Titan misses profit expectations despite strong jewellery demand in India
Indian jewellery giant Titan Company Limited reported quarterly earnings below market expectations as rising operational costs and higher gold prices weighed on profitability despite continued consumer demand.
The company, which owns well-known jewellery brands such as Tanishq and CaratLane, announced that its fourth-quarter profit increased compared with the previous year but still fell short of analysts’ forecasts.
Titan benefited from stable demand for gold jewellery and coins, with more customers visiting stores across India. Sales revenue rose significantly during the quarter, reflecting strong consumer interest in jewellery purchases even as gold prices remained elevated in international markets.
However, the company faced mounting pressure from rising raw material expenses, marketing costs, and broader operational spending. Total expenses increased sharply during the reporting period, limiting profit growth despite higher sales volumes.
Global gold prices have remained volatile over the past year due to geopolitical uncertainty, inflation concerns, and slower economic growth in several regions. These market conditions have created challenges for jewellery retailers, as higher gold costs can reduce profit margins while also affecting consumer purchasing behavior.
India remains one of the world’s largest gold markets, where jewellery is closely linked to cultural traditions, weddings, festivals, and long-term savings. Demand for gold products often stays resilient even during periods of economic uncertainty.
Industry analysts say jewellery companies are increasingly focusing on digital sales channels, premium collections, and branded retail experiences to maintain growth in a competitive market. Titan continues to invest in expanding its retail network and strengthening its presence in both physical and online commerce.
Despite the weaker-than-expected profit performance, investors continue to monitor the company’s long-term growth potential as India’s luxury and jewellery sectors expand alongside rising consumer spending.
