Tanger Med surpasses 11 million containers handled in 2025
The Tanger Med port complex continued its strong growth momentum in 2025, surpassing the symbolic threshold of 11 million containers handled, according to figures released by the Tanger Med Port Authority.
The port’s four container terminals processed a total of 11.1 million TEUs in 2025, representing an increase of 8.4% compared to the previous year. This performance was largely driven by the commissioning of the latest extension of Terminal TC4, operated by APM Terminals.
Truck traffic also recorded positive results, with more than 535,000 TIR trucks handled during the year, up 3.6% year-on-year. This growth was mainly supported by rising exports of industrial goods and agri-food products, reinforcing Tanger Med’s strategic role in supporting Morocco’s export economy.
Passenger activity showed sustained growth, reaching over 3.2 million passengers and nearly 900,000 vehicles, marking annual increases of 5.7% and 5%, respectively. The port authority noted that the Marhaba operation was conducted smoothly, aided by operational measures such as the widespread adoption of confirmed tickets, introduced in 2025 to better regulate traffic flows.
In terms of bulk traffic, solid bulk volumes declined due to a shift in cereal imports, while liquid bulk traffic expanded significantly, posting double-digit growth. Vehicle handling activity experienced a temporary decline, reflecting production adjustments and changes in global automotive logistics.
Overall, total cargo throughput at Tanger Med reached 161 million tonnes in 2025, an increase of 13.3% compared to 2024, confirming the port’s leading position in the Mediterranean and African maritime landscape.
