Taiwan says China represents the main threat to regional stability

Taiwan authorities declared that China represents the principal threat to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, amid rising tensions surrounding the Taiwan Strait and growing geopolitical rivalry between Beijing and Washington.

The statement came after Chinese President Xi Jinping warned U.S. President Donald Trump that mishandling the Taiwan issue could increase the risk of confrontation between the two global powers.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Beijing of intensifying military pressure around the island through frequent air and naval operations, as well as so-called “grey-zone tactics,” which include coercive actions that stop short of open warfare. Taiwanese officials argued that these activities contribute to instability across the region and raise concerns among neighboring countries.

Over recent years, tensions between China and Taiwan have increased as Beijing continues to claim the self-governed island as part of its territory. Taiwan, however, maintains its own democratic government and insists on preserving its political system and autonomy.

Military exercises, naval patrols, and advanced drone operations have become more visible in the region, reflecting the growing strategic importance of the Taiwan Strait. International observers view the area as one of the world’s most sensitive geopolitical hotspots because of its role in global trade and international security.

Several countries, including the United States and its regional allies, have repeatedly emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific region. Analysts believe that diplomatic dialogue will remain essential to preventing further escalation.

The situation continues to attract global attention as concerns rise over the long-term impact of tensions between Beijing and Taipei on regional and international stability.
