Stellantis opens circular economy dismantling center in Casablanca, a global third site
Stellantis has inaugurated a new automotive dismantling facility in the Aïn Sebaâ district of Casablanca, making Morocco the first country in the Africa and Middle East region to host such an installation for the group. The site operates under Sustainera, the Stellantis entity dedicated to repair, reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling, and joins only two other facilities of its kind worldwide, located in Turin and São Paulo.
The investment announced for the project totals 1.6 million euros. The facility spans nearly 6,000 square meters and is designed to process up to 10,000 vehicles per year. Its operational process covers the full dismantling cycle: reception, identification, depollution, disassembly, quality control, cataloguing, and storage. Each vehicle follows a structured sequence in which fluids and hazardous materials are removed first, followed by the extraction of reusable components. Mechanical parts, bodywork elements, electronic modules, and interior components are all inspected before being reintroduced into the after-sales supply chain.
The distribution of validated parts will occur through several channels, including Stellantis's own after-sales network, partner repairers, the Distrigo hub, and specialized digital platforms. Parts24, a business-to-consumer platform operated by Auto24 for used parts, forms part of this ecosystem, alongside Piyes, a Moroccan startup focused on used parts supply for insurers and fleet managers. The model targets two objectives simultaneously: making reused parts more accessible and reliable, and reducing the dominance of informal circuits that remain significant in Morocco's used parts market.
The Casablanca center fits into a broader and deepening Stellantis presence in Morocco, complementing the group's industrial complex in Kenitra and the Africa Technical Center in Casablanca. Yves Peyrot Des Gachons, Managing Director of Stellantis Morocco, framed the facility as contributing to more responsible and resource-efficient mobility, and underscored the country's strategic role within the group's regional footprint. Beyond its environmental rationale, the facility signals a further upgrade in Morocco's position within the global automotive value chain. The country has progressively moved beyond competitive assembly into engineering, digital services, and now end-of-life management, deepening the industrial ecosystem and creating new competencies in dismantling, logistics, quality control, and vehicle lifecycle management. The opening reinforces a trajectory in which the end of a vehicle's useful life is treated not as an exit from the value chain but as the entry point into a new one.
