Spain visa fraud investigation underway in Tangier
Judicial authorities in Tangier have launched an investigation into dozens of Schengen visa applications flagged by the Spanish consulate for containing falsified documents and misleading information.
The Tangier prosecutor's office confirmed that multiple Spanish visa applications included forged documents. The consulate identified the irregularities during a thorough review of submitted files, according to reports from El Pais.
Initial findings suggest that the falsified materials involved key documents proving applicants’ professional and financial situations. Suspicious employment contracts, manipulated payslips, and inconsistent bank statements were among the items raising concern. These indicators point to an organized attempt to bypass Schengen visa requirements.
Authorities note that the investigation extends beyond individual applicants. Early evidence hints at the involvement of organized networks producing fraudulent documentation, with some applications linked to "fictitious entities"—companies created solely to generate false proof for visa purposes.
Under the supervision of the prosecutor, the judicial police have begun interviewing all individuals involved in the suspect applications. Technical analyses and field investigations are ongoing to assess the scope of the network, identify the forgers, and determine legal responsibility.
Moroccan authorities and European consular services are continuing to strengthen cooperation to combat fraud and irregular migration. The effort aims not only to improve application screening but also to impose strict penalties on those attempting to circumvent Schengen entry procedures.
