SNCF orders 15 new-generation TGV trains from Alstom
SNCF Voyageurs has announced the purchase of 15 additional next-generation TGV trains from Alstom, in a deal valued at approximately €600 million, reinforcing its long-term strategy to modernize France’s high-speed rail fleet.
The order forms part of the fourth phase of a partnership launched in 2016 between the French railway operator and the manufacturer, aimed at developing the so-called “TGV of the future.” With this latest acquisition, the total number of trainsets ordered under the agreement now reaches 160 units.
According to SNCF Voyageurs, the new trains are expected to be delivered in 2029 and will help expand high-speed services, particularly on routes linking France and Belgium, where passenger demand continues to grow.
The next-generation TGVs are designed to offer improved energy efficiency, greater passenger comfort, and lower operating costs, aligning with SNCF’s broader objectives of sustainability and competitiveness in the European rail market.
