Senegal federation clarifies World Cup airport security video
The Senegal Football Federation has clarified the circumstances surrounding a viral video showing members of its national team undergoing a security screening ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The footage sparked online debate about where and when the checks took place, prompting an official response from the governing body.
The federation stated that the security procedures were carried out on June 7 in Raleigh, North Carolina, during boarding for a private flight to San Antonio, Texas. It rejected claims circulating on social platforms that the screening occurred upon arrival in Texas. According to the federation, the process took place before departure and followed standard travel arrangements for the team.
Officials explained that players and staff were transported directly from their hotel to the airport tarmac by team bus. Security and police checks were completed beside the aircraft, allowing the delegation to avoid public terminals and standard boarding areas. The arrangement was designed to streamline logistics and reduce waiting times ahead of the flight.
The federation also emphasized that all procedures complied with airport regulations and that no incidents were reported during the operation. It confirmed that the private flight from Raleigh to San Antonio proceeded normally and that the full delegation arrived safely at its destination. The clarification aimed to counter misinformation amplified by the viral clip and to reaffirm the routine nature of the travel process.
