Russia deploys Starlink jamming systems to counter Ukraine's expanding drone operations
Russian forces are expanding their electronic warfare capabilities by deploying systems designed to disrupt Starlink satellite communications, as they seek to counter Ukraine's increasingly effective medium-range drone operations, according to Ukrainian drone commanders and pilots.
Military personnel interviewed by Reuters said Russia has introduced powerful jamming equipment intended to interfere with the satellite internet service that supports many Ukrainian drone missions. They also reported that Russian forces are disguising military logistics by using vehicles that resemble civilian transport in an effort to make potential targets harder to identify.
Ukraine has significantly increased its use of what commanders describe as medium-range strike drones, capable of accurately hitting military objectives dozens of kilometres behind the front line. Supported by satellite communications, these systems have become an important element of Kyiv's campaign to disrupt Russian logistics and command structures.
According to Ukrainian military personnel, the drone campaign has targeted supply routes, fuel storage facilities, air-defence positions and command centres, placing growing pressure on Russian operations. Ukrainian officials say these attacks have affected logistics networks and contributed to fuel shortages in Russian-controlled areas of Crimea.
