Russia claims capture of two additional Ukrainian settlements amid ongoing fighting
Russia announced on Tuesday that its forces have taken control of two additional settlements in southern Ukraine, as intense fighting continues along multiple fronts. According to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, the villages of Zeleny Hai and Dobropillia in the Zaporizhzhia region are now under Russian control.
The announcement follows comments made a day earlier by Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian General Staff, who claimed that Russian troops had also seized the cities of Pokrovsk in Donetsk and Vovchansk in Kharkiv.
Speaking at a press briefing in Paris after talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected Russia’s assertions regarding the loss of major urban centers. “Kupiansk remains under our authority and under our control,” he insisted.
Zelensky acknowledged that Russian forces were making gains in certain sectors but stressed that they were facing “fierce resistance” from Ukrainian troops. Due to the ongoing conflict, independent confirmation of battlefield claims from either side remains difficult.
