Air Europa, the Spanish carrier, has announced its plans to resume nonstop service between Madrid and the increasingly popular tourist destination of Marrakech, Morocco, beginning March 21.

This decision comes after the airline temporarily halted the twice-weekly route during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Air Europa is confident in its decision, stating that the route has historically performed well and is expected to continue doing so. The flights between Marrakech’s Menara Airport and Madrid Barajas hub were initially launched by Air Europa in 2017.

With the summer travel season fast approaching, Air Europa aims to capitalize on the surging demand for European vacations in Morocco. The airline is offering over 32,500 seats to North Africa in the coming months and anticipates that its aircraft will operate at over 75 percent capacity.

Air Europa is not the only airline expanding its service to Morocco. Low-cost carrier Transavia, a subsidiary of Air France-KLM, has also announced new summer routes connecting French cities Nantes and Montpellier with Moroccan destinations Tangier and Rabat.

Furthermore, Belgian leisure airline TUI Fly has introduced twice-weekly service between Oujda, Morocco, and Antwerp, Belgium. The carrier identified strong interest from Antwerp's Moroccan community as a key factor in initiating flights on this new route.

As visitors begin to return to the imperial city of Marrakech and other enticing Moroccan destinations, Air Europa, along with other airlines, stands ready to meet the pent-up demand.
