Plane crashes in Kenya with 12 people on board

A small aircraft carrying 12 people crashed on Tuesday in Kenya, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) confirmed, without providing details on casualties.

The plane was en route to Kichwa Tembo, a private airstrip in the Masaï Mara National Reserve, from the tourist resort town of Diani, when it went down around 5:30 a.m. local time (2:30 GMT).

“The aircraft had 12 people on board,” the KCAA said in a statement posted on X, adding that government agencies were on site to determine the cause of the accident. Small plane crashes are relatively common in the East African country.

In August, a light aircraft operated by the medical NGO Amref crashed near Nairobi, killing six people and injuring two.
