Pakistan: Explosion outside Islamabad courthouse leaves several victims

ISLAMABAD (AFP) — An explosion occurred on Tuesday morning outside a district courthouse in a residential area of Islamabad, leaving several victims, according to witnesses cited by AFP.

Police and ambulances rushed to the scene, cordoning off the area around the judicial complex. Emergency services were seen extinguishing burning vehicles and assisting the wounded.

“I was parking my car and entering the complex when I heard a loud explosion at the entrance,” said lawyer Roustam Malik, one of the eyewitnesses. “It was total chaos — lawyers and people were running everywhere inside the compound. I saw two bodies lying near the gate, and several cars were on fire,” he told AFP.

Authorities have not yet released an official toll or commented on the cause of the blast, but security forces have been deployed across the area as investigations are underway.

Explosions of this nature are rare in Islamabad, which is one of Pakistan’s most heavily guarded cities. However, the country has witnessed a resurgence of attacks in recent months, particularly in its northwestern regions bordering Afghanistan.
