Nearly 11,000 people displaced as severe flooding sweeps across Malaysia

Nearly 11,000 people have been forced from their homes due to widespread flooding across seven Malaysian states, with the northeastern state of Kelantan suffering the most severe impact as heavy rain continues to batter the region.

According to official figures released early Monday, 10,922 residents have been evacuated nationwide. Kelantan alone reported 8,248 displaced people from 3,022 families, marking a sharp rise from the previous night.

Authorities describe the situation in Kelantan as critical, with persistent rainfall leaving emergency teams struggling to contain rising waters.

Flooding spreads to more states

Other states are also facing worsening conditions.

Perlis recorded a dramatic surge to 811 victims from 243 families, up from just 114 people the night before.
Penang reported 242 evacuees, also an increase.
Perak registered a rise in affected residents.
Kedah and Terengganu, however, saw slight decreases, providing a limited reprieve.
Selangor has recently joined the list of flood-affected states, widening the scope of the national emergency response.

Landslide in Kuala Lumpur forces evacuations

In a separate incident, a 60-metre landslide struck a residential area in Kuala Lumpur, burying several vehicles and prompting the evacuation of 104 housing units, according to local media. While no casualties were reported, multiple cars and motorbikes were damaged.

Emergency teams continue to monitor rainfall patterns across the country as authorities warn that conditions may worsen in the coming days.
