Navigating the Storm: Morocco's Agriculture Minister Charts a Course for Red Meat and Dairy Sectors

In the face of Morocco's ongoing drought, Agriculture Minister Mohammed Sadiki spearheaded pivotal discussions in Rabat, focusing on the nation's red meat and dairy industries. The meetings, held on Tuesday, aimed to bolster food sovereignty and address critical challenges facing these sectors.

Minister Sadiki emphasized collaboration with federations and professional associations to assess and enhance the current state of the industry. A key objective is ensuring a stable supply of red meat and dairy products, alongside facilitating the import of essential raw materials.

The gatherings included prominent figures such as the President of the Supervisory Board of Crédit Agricole du Maroc, industry leaders, regional agricultural representatives, and senior ministry officials. Together, they explored measures like sustained support for livestock feed, importing animal feed, and revising livestock regulations. Plans also include developing resilient forage crops, regulating artificial insemination, and improving seed importation and sales. A focus on high-yield mixed breeds and protecting female livestock is central to the strategy.

Mustapha El Khouli, President of the National Association of Red Meat Producers, commended the ministry's collaboration with industry professionals, resulting in robust meat production and enhanced feed quality. Similarly, Rachid El Khattate, President of the Dairy Sector Interprofessional Federation, reaffirmed the commitment to collecting milk from all sector participants to ensure adequate supply.

Abderrahmane Majdoubi, President of the National Association of Sheep and Goat Farmers, addressed the challenges faced by farmers due to the drought and praised the ministry's support for these vital sectors.

The discussions also covered livestock conditions, meat pricing, import challenges, and strategic support measures to maintain a steady market supply. The ministry remains steadfast in its dedication to supporting professionals and achieving sectoral development goals under the Generation Green strategy.
