Mydays founder eyes buyback of ProSiebenSat.1 adventure unit in strategic bid
The founder of German adventure experience company Mydays has expressed interest in buying back the business from media group ProSiebenSat.1, signaling a potential shift in ownership within the competitive experiential entertainment sector.
Fabrice Schmidt, who co-founded Mydays, stated that he and a group of investors are evaluating a possible acquisition of the unit, which is currently part of the ProSiebenSat.1 media portfolio. The potential deal could place them in direct competition with other industry figures, including German entrepreneur Jochen Schweizer, who is also associated with the adventure and experience market.
Mydays operates in the growing “experience economy,” offering consumers activities such as travel experiences, adventure sports, and gift-based entertainment packages. The sector has expanded in recent years as consumers increasingly prioritize experiential spending over material goods.
Schmidt emphasized that the founding team’s deep knowledge of the brand and its customer base gives them a strong foundation to rebuild the business independently. He argued that with updated marketing strategies and modern technology, Mydays could regain stronger market positioning and renewed growth.
ProSiebenSat.1, one of Germany’s major media conglomerates, acquired Mydays as part of its broader diversification strategy into digital commerce and lifestyle services. However, the company has recently faced pressure to streamline its portfolio and focus on core broadcasting operations amid changing media consumption habits.
Industry analysts note that a potential buyback would reflect a broader trend of founders reclaiming control of businesses previously integrated into larger corporate groups. Such moves are often driven by a belief that more agile, specialized management can unlock additional value.
While discussions remain at an early stage, the possible transaction highlights ongoing restructuring in Europe’s media and entertainment industries, where companies are reassessing assets in response to shifting consumer behavior and digital competition.
If successful, the deal could mark a return of Mydays to independent ownership and reshape competition in Germany’s growing experience-based leisure market.
