Moscow-Morocco trade surges 73% as Russian exporters target North Africa
Trade between Moscow and Morocco has surged by 73% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, reflecting a major expansion of Russian economic activities in North Africa. Anatoly Garbuzov, Minister of the Moscow City Government and Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy, attributed the growth to heightened interest from Moscow-based exporters and the city’s robust support for international business ventures.
Speaking to Sputnik news agency, Garbuzov highlighted Morocco as a key market in Russia's strategy to strengthen trade ties with North Africa. He noted that the Moscow Export, Industry and Investment Support Center (Mosprom) has been instrumental in assisting manufacturers at every stage of their foreign economic operations, contributing significantly to the increased trade volume.
Trade mission to Casablanca
From September 8 to 10, 2025, Mosprom organized an international trade mission to Casablanca in collaboration with the Russian Trade Mission in Morocco. The event brought together six Moscow-based companies specializing in diverse sectors, including medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, display technologies, electric vehicle charging stations, and canned fish production.
Stepan Bogotdinov, advisor to the Russian Trade Mission in Morocco, praised Moscow’s initiatives for fostering economic cooperation with Morocco and highlighted the quality of Russian products tailored to North African markets. He expressed optimism that these efforts would deepen trade partnerships and open new business opportunities.
Strategic agreements drive collaboration
The trade mission led to several breakthrough agreements. NIX-T, a Moscow-based manufacturer of display and interactive devices under the “NIX Touch” brand, held negotiations with Moroccan industry leaders and educational institutions. A French-speaking medical university expressed interest in the company’s products, listing it as a potential supplier for a new facility under construction.
Intermobility Eva, a producer of electric vehicle charging stations, presented its solutions to the African Union of Digital Companies. The organization showed strong interest in adopting Russian technologies to advance Morocco’s innovation-driven sectors.
In the food industry, “Russian Fish World,” a company specializing in caviar and canned fish, held over 10 meetings with Moroccan distributors and retail chains. These discussions are expected to facilitate exports not only to Morocco but to neighboring North African countries as well.
Expanding Russian influence in Africa
This trade growth aligns with Russia’s broader strategy to diversify its economic partnerships and strengthen its presence in Africa. Morocco, as a key gateway to the continent, plays a pivotal role in this effort. The success of Moscow’s recent trade mission underscores the potential for further collaboration between Russian firms and Moroccan markets, paving the way for deeper economic ties.
