Morocco Unveils Ambitious Vision for Business Tourism Boom by 2030
Morocco is gearing up for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal. The North African nation has set a bold target: attracting two million business tourists by the time the tournament kicks off. Fatim-Zahra Ammor, the Minister of Tourism, outlined these ambitious plans during a recent parliamentary session, highlighting the key role business tourism will play in promoting Morocco as a prime destination.
Speaking before the House of Representatives on Monday, Ammor revealed the Tourism Ministry's goal to welcome 1.5 million business travelers by 2026, paving the way for two million by 2030. With the World Cup on the horizon, government officials are enthusiastic about the tournament's potential to boost Morocco's economy and tourism industry.
Ammor highlighted the significant progress in business tourism in recent years, attracting substantial investments to destinations designed to meet the needs of professional travelers. Marrakesh, a gem in Morocco's tourism landscape, is building a world-class convention center capable of hosting 10,000 participants. This new facility underscores the nation's goal to place Marrakesh among the world's top 10 business tourism destinations and to establish it as a leader on the African continent.
The minister's comments align with the strategic roadmap for 2023-2026, a comprehensive plan aimed at setting the foundation for long-term funding and investment in the sector. Ammor indicated that her ministry is open to considering all proposals and locations with potential for business tourism events, assuring stakeholders of the necessary support and resources.
In 2023, Morocco welcomed 14.5 million tourists, reinforcing the country's determination to reach 17 million visitors by 2026 and an ambitious 26 million by 2030. The upcoming World Cup is seen as a major marketing opportunity, a chance to propel Morocco's business tourism ambitions and establish it as a leading destination for global events and conferences.
