Morocco unveils 12.8 billion dirham livestock support initiative

Morocco has introduced a significant livestock support program valued at 12.8 billion dirhams, designed to provide financial aid to farmers, secure fodder supplies, and preserve breeding females. The announcement came during the Government Council session held in Rabat.

The initiative aligns with Morocco's broader efforts to bolster its agricultural sector and enhance the livelihoods of farmers, as guided by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, emphasized the program’s intent to deliver direct support payments to livestock breeders while advancing the animal identification process.

In addition, the council approved Draft Decree No. 2.25.394, which updates standards for the quality and safety of edible fats and vegetable oils sold in the country. Government Spokesperson Mustapha Baitas explained that these revisions aim to modernize the legal framework, enhance consumer protection, and align with international standards. The decree, based on Law No. 28.07 on food safety, defines product specifications, permissible commercial designations, and labeling requirements, ensuring transparency in the marketplace.

These measures reflect Morocco's commitment to modernizing its agricultural industry, safeguarding food safety, and improving the welfare of farming communities.
