Morocco strengthens agricultural partnerships at IFAD summit in Rome

Morocco has joined global agricultural leaders at the 48th International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Governing Council meeting in Rome, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to agricultural development and food security initiatives.

The Moroccan delegation, led by Ambassador Youssef Balla, the Kingdom's Permanent Representative to UN agencies in Rome, is participating alongside heads of state, government officials, and representatives from development and financial institutions worldwide.

The Kingdom's active involvement underscores its role as a key regional and international player in agricultural development, particularly in advocating for developing nations. Morocco supports initiatives that enhance small producers' resilience against climate change impacts and food security challenges.

During the two-day gathering, the Moroccan delegation is actively contributing to discussions about IFAD's work program and budget outlook. Their focus is on ensuring effective allocation of project funding, with special attention to African initiatives.

The council meeting's agenda includes evaluating progress and approving the organization's work program and budget for 2025. As IFAD's primary decision-making body, the Governing Council comprises 178 member states and maintains its unique position as the only UN agency exclusively focused on transforming agriculture, rural economies, and food systems.
