Morocco sees slight 0.1% drop in manufacturing producer prices
Morocco’s industrial producer price index for the manufacturing sector, excluding oil refining, decreased by 0.1% in July 2025 compared to the previous month, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).
Declines in key manufacturing industries
The HCP’s latest report on industrial, energy, and mining producer prices (IPPIEM) highlighted significant declines in certain industries. Food manufacturing saw a 0.4% drop, while the clothing sector and rubber and plastic production recorded decreases of 0.2% and 0.3%, respectively. These reductions were the main drivers behind the overall decline in the manufacturing producer price index.
Modest gains in some sectors
Despite the overall downturn, several industries reported modest growth. The manufacturing of electrical equipment and metal products increased by 0.1%, while non-metallic mineral products saw a 0.3% rise. These gains helped to partially offset the broader decline.
Stability in extractive industries and utilities
Producer prices in extractive industries rose slightly by 0.1% in July, reflecting minor upward pressure in raw material costs. Meanwhile, the indices for electricity and water production and distribution remained unchanged, contributing to overall stability in utility-related sectors.
Context: fluctuations in 2025
The slight decrease in July’s index comes after a period of growth earlier in the year. In March 2025, industrial producer prices, excluding oil refining, rose by 0.1%. This increase was driven by the metallurgy industry, which posted a substantial 1.7% gain due to higher costs in metal processing and transformation activities.
The 0.1% decline in July reflects mixed trends across Morocco’s key industrial sectors. While some industries experienced downturns, others showed resilience, helping to maintain overall stability in industrial producer prices.
