Morocco election 2026: turnout reaches 4.23% by 10 a.m.

Morocco’s 2026 legislative elections recorded a national voter turnout of 4.23% by 10 a.m. on Wednesday, according to figures released by the Ministry of Interior.

Voting began at 8 a.m. across polling stations throughout the country, as voters cast ballots to elect members of the House of Representatives.

Polling stations open nationwide

The Ministry of Interior said voting operations were proceeding normally during the first hours of the election.

Representatives of competing candidate lists were present at polling stations in both local and regional electoral constituencies, according to the ministry.

The election is being held across Morocco on September 23 as part of the process to renew the country's 395-seat House of Representatives.

Early turnout figure released

The 4.23% figure represents participation recorded nationally by 10 a.m., only two hours after polling stations opened. It therefore reflects an early stage of the voting day rather than the final participation rate.

More than 15.8 million voters were registered on the national electoral rolls following the exceptional revision process completed in July. Women account for 46% of registered voters, while men represent 54%.

The final turnout will depend on participation throughout the remainder of polling day.

Legislative vote enters decisive phase

The September 23 election follows a campaign that ran from September 10 until midnight on September 22. The official electoral calendar provides for preliminary results to begin being announced from September 24.

As voting continues, authorities are monitoring the conduct of the ballot across local and regional constituencies. The early turnout figure provides the first nationwide participation snapshot of the day, while the definitive level of participation will only be known after polling concludes.
