Morocco Braces for Continental Football Extravaganza in 2025
As the clock ticks closer to the 35th edition of Africa's premier football spectacle, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the date for the eagerly awaited qualifiers draw. Johannesburg's SuperSport studios will play host to this momentous occasion on July 4th, marking the first official stride towards the much-anticipated tournament.
With this announcement, the stage is set for an exhilarating event that will chart the course for teams across the vast African continent. Joining the fray are the triumphant quartet from the preliminary round – Chad, Eswatini, Liberia, and South Sudan – swelling the total number of participating nations to an impressive 48.
These contenders will be meticulously divided into 12 groups of four teams each, igniting a fierce battle for supremacy. The qualifiers are poised to commence in September 2024, with the ultimate objective of selecting the 24 elite squads worthy of competing in Africa's grandest football spectacle, the TotalEnergies AFCON.
