Morocco and Indonesia Forge Stronger Parliamentary Bonds: A Step Towards Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation

In a significant move to strengthen diplomatic ties, Morocco and Indonesia have pledged to enhance their parliamentary cooperation. This development comes as part of a broader initiative to deepen the existing relationship between the two nations, with a focus on addressing common legislative issues.

Rachid Talbi Alami, Speaker of Morocco's House of Representatives, met with Aboe Bakar Al-Habsyi, President of the Indonesia-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, in Rabat to discuss the future of their parliamentary collaboration. The meeting highlighted the mutual desire to bolster ties through increased reciprocal visits and improved coordination on matters of shared interest, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

Al-Habsyi emphasized the importance of the strategic cooperation agreement signed between Morocco and Indonesia in 2023, describing Morocco as a crucial strategic partner for Indonesia. This agreement signifies a strong commitment to expanding and diversifying areas of bilateral cooperation.

The Indonesian representative also commended Morocco's role in supporting the Palestinian cause, particularly praising the efforts of King Mohammed VI as President of the Al-Quds Committee. This shared stance on international issues underscores the alignment of values between the two nations.

Talbi Alami expressed satisfaction with the current state of relations, especially in the parliamentary domain. He stressed the need for further enhancement of exchanges and cooperation across various sectors. The Moroccan Speaker also conveyed gratitude for Indonesia's support in Morocco's successful bid to obtain "observer member" status within the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

The meeting also touched upon Morocco's recent Atlantic Initiative, launched by King Mohammed VI. This strategic move aims to facilitate access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, positioning Morocco as a gateway to the African market and a key investment hub. Talbi highlighted Morocco's diverse partnerships and economic openness as crucial factors in this role.
