Moroccan Transport Firms Set to Expand Influence in Spanish Market
Moroccan companies are making significant inroads into the Spanish logistics sector, rapidly increasing their number of operational licenses in the country. This burgeoning activity has drawn the attention of media outlets in both Morocco and Spain, with some analysts forecasting a substantial shift in market dynamics.
The expansion of Moroccan transport companies in Spain is underscored by a striking disparity in trip numbers between operators from the two countries. According to recent reports from Moroccan media, Spanish transport firms utilized just over 8,000 travel permits for journeys to third countries last year, representing a mere 10 percent of the total.
In stark contrast, Moroccan transport companies capitalized on more than 80,000 licenses, underscoring their robust market presence. This significant difference has not gone unnoticed by industry observers.
The National Federation of Transport Associations of Spain has acknowledged ongoing negotiations between Moroccan authorities and the Spanish Ministry of Transport, aimed at increasing the quota of operating licenses for Moroccan firms. Despite Spain's fleet boasting over 133,000 trucks, the federation pointed out that most of these vehicles are predominantly engaged in routes within European Union countries, thereby creating opportunities for Moroccan companies to expand their operations.
Part of the growing influence of Moroccan transport firms in Spain can be attributed to the rising demand for Moroccan drivers. La Razón, a Spanish media outlet, has reported that Spanish companies are actively recruiting Moroccan drivers, offering lucrative salary packages to address the shortage of young Spaniards interested in the profession.
As Moroccan transport firms continue to capitalize on these opportunities, their expanding footprint in Spain's logistics sector appears poised for further growth, reshaping the competitive landscape in the process.
