Morocco's top security official, Abdellatif Hammouchi, embarked on a significant visit to Saudi Arabia aimed at fortifying counterterrorism collaboration between the two nations.

As the director general of Morocco's National Security and Territorial Surveillance Directorate, Hammouchi's journey was prompted by an invitation from Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Huwairini, the chief of Saudi's State Security Agency. The timing of Hammouchi's visit coincided with the World Defense Conference taking place in Saudi Arabia from February 4-8.

During his attendance at the summit, Hammouchi had the opportunity to explore exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge security and defense industry technologies. Additionally, he engaged in bilateral discussions with senior Saudi officials, focusing on the advancement of joint counterterrorism efforts.

These meetings follow the recent signing of a cooperation agreement between Moroccan and Saudi security agencies, aimed at enhancing coordination in combating terrorism and terror financing.

Both Moroccan and Saudi leadership have demonstrated a commitment to bolstering security ties between their respective nations. Hammouchi's visit and the discussions held this week mark the latest strides in translating high-level commitments into tangible collaborative actions. Given the persistent threats of terrorism across the region, initiatives such as those deliberated upon during this visit are crucial for enhancing prevention and monitoring capabilities.

The outcomes of the World Defense Conference and Hammouchi's meetings are anticipated to chart the course for further Moroccan-Saudi security cooperation in an increasingly intricate regional threat landscape.
