Marrakech's Unique Assets Spotlighted for 2030 World Cup Hosting
In a strategic move to elevate Marrakech as a prime location for prestigious global events, Fouzi Lekjaa, President of Morocco's Football Federation (FRMF), highlighted the city's distinctive advantages for hosting high-caliber gatherings, including the 2030 World Cup.
During a pivotal meeting chaired by Minister of Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, Lekjaa underscored Marrakech's global standing and robust infrastructure, asserting its readiness to host world-class events. The meeting focused on assessing progress in preparations for the upcoming World Cup, reflecting Morocco's commitment to excellence in event organization.
Lekjaa lauded Marrakech's recent track record, noting its successful hosting of high-profile events like the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. He emphasized that the city’s historical heritage and modern amenities position it as a "key player" in organizing future global spectacles, including the 2030 World Cup.
"Marrakech's commitment to hosting major events is set to accelerate the city's development across various sectors," Lekjaa remarked, highlighting the anticipated positive ripple effects on the local economy and infrastructure.
Minister Laftit echoed these sentiments, urging all stakeholders to intensify efforts in mobilizing the necessary financial and human resources. He stressed the urgency of completing the preparatory framework to ensure Marrakech is ready for the 2030 World Cup, marking this meeting as part of a broader series of strategic sessions held in prospective host cities.
Earlier in the month, a similar meeting took place in Rabat, where discussions centered on preparations for both the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 World Cup. During this session, Lekjaa spotlighted the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, revealing plans for its completion by the end of the year. With a capacity of 65,000 spectators, this venue is set to be a prime location for World Cup semifinals.
The concerted efforts and forward-thinking strategies discussed in these meetings underscore Morocco's ambitious vision for hosting international sports events, with Marrakech poised to shine on the global stage.
