Lufthansa flights disrupted after cabin crew strike hits major german hubs
Air travel across Germany faced major disruptions on Friday after cabin crew at Deutsche Lufthansa AG launched a one-day strike, affecting operations at key hubs including Frankfurt and Munich.
The industrial action, organized by the UFO union representing flight attendants, led to widespread cancellations and delays. The strike ran from early morning until late evening local time, impacting all departures from Lufthansa’s main airports, as well as services at several regional locations operated by Lufthansa CityLine.
Airport operator Fraport AG estimated that hundreds of flights were cancelled, disrupting travel plans for tens of thousands of passengers. The figures reflect the broader impact across all airlines operating at Frankfurt Airport, not only Lufthansa services.
Union representatives said the strike stems from unresolved negotiations over working conditions for approximately 19,000 cabin crew members, as well as ongoing concerns about job security for staff affected by the gradual shutdown of Lufthansa CityLine operations.
A union spokesperson stated that the escalation could have been avoided but followed months of stalled talks. The airline has not yet issued detailed comments on the latest round of disruption.
The strike marks the third major walkout in recent months, highlighting continuing tensions between airline management and cabin crew over labour conditions and restructuring plans.
