Kosovo warns that Serbia reflects Russia’s regional ambitions
Kosovo’s foreign minister has warned that Serbia’s political and security posture increasingly reflects Russia’s ambitions in the region, accusing Belgrade’s leadership of favoring destabilization over democratic and European reforms.
Speaking through a public statement on social media, Donika Gervalla-Schwarz argued that Serbia’s actions offer a clear indication of Moscow’s intentions in Southeast Europe. According to her, Belgrade does not pursue an independent foreign policy but instead aligns itself closely with Russia’s strategic outlook.
The minister pointed to recent comments by Serbian leaders questioning the current international order and announcing plans to strengthen military capabilities. She said such rhetoric sends a signal of confrontation rather than cooperation, both to neighboring countries and to international partners.
Rejecting claims that Serbia is under external threat, Gervalla-Schwarz stated that the real risk lies within the country’s leadership. She warned that prioritizing nationalist and expansionist narratives undermines regional stability and delays progress toward European integration.
Kosovo’s top diplomat concluded by stressing that peace in Europe depends on respect for democratic values, dialogue, and the rejection of policies that revive imperial or hegemonic ambitions.
