Kosovo Parliament fails to form government again, new elections likely

The Kosovo Parliament failed on Wednesday to elect a government for the second time in recent weeks, extending a political deadlock that has paralyzed the country’s institutions. This development increases the likelihood of early legislative elections to resolve the ongoing crisis.

The candidate proposed by the party of outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti did not secure enough votes during the parliamentary session, coming just three weeks after Kurti himself failed to gain confidence to form a new government.

Under Kosovo’s constitution, only two voting attempts are permitted. If the second attempt fails, the President must dissolve Parliament and call for new elections, which are required to take place within 40 days.

Political analysts warn that prolonged institutional instability could affect governance, public services, and international relations in the Balkans.
