Kenitra–Marrakech high-speed rail line: foundations of major railway bridge completed

The foundation works of a key railway bridge on Morocco’s Kenitra–Marrakech high-speed rail line have been successfully completed, marking an important milestone in the development of the project.

The bridge, which extends over more than 440 meters, is based on a mixed steel-and-concrete structure designed to support train speeds of up to 320 kilometers per hour. Its foundations consist of dozens of deep bored piles, installed using advanced rotary drilling techniques to ensure stability in challenging geological conditions.

According to project officials, the construction process relied on careful planning, specialized technical teams, and close coordination between design and supervision units. A prototype-based approach and strict validation procedures were adopted to guarantee construction quality and compliance with technical standards.

The site presented significant challenges, including uneven terrain, complex soil characteristics, and persistent rainfall. To address these constraints, construction access routes and foundation layouts were adjusted, while rigorous safety and quality control measures were enforced throughout the works.

The completion of the bridge foundations paves the way for the next phase of construction, notably the installation of the superstructure and bridge decks. These stages will be carried out under strict oversight to meet safety, quality, and timeline requirements.

The Kenitra–Marrakech high-speed rail line is one of Morocco’s flagship infrastructure projects. Stretching over hundreds of kilometers, it aims to strengthen connectivity between major cities and support the country’s growing mobility needs, particularly in the context of preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
