Israeli Military Operation in Jenin Ends After Ten Days of Intense Conflict
Israeli forces have concluded a ten-day military operation in the city of Jenin, located in the occupied West Bank. This large-scale raid, described by Israeli officials as a counterterrorism effort, marks the most significant Israeli operation in the region since the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The operation, which began on August 28, targeted militant activities in Jenin, Tulkarem, and the Al-Faraa refugee camp. It has resulted in substantial damage to Jenin and severe disruptions to local services, including water and electricity. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, the assault led to the deaths of 21 Palestinians.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported an overnight operation that resulted in the death of Muhammad Zakaria Zubeidi, a prominent figure associated with the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades. The IDF stated that this action was necessary to address recent attacks against Israeli civilians.
Jenin, originally a refugee camp established for Palestinians displaced during the creation of Israel in 1948, has experienced severe infrastructure damage due to the raid. This has further exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the area.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as "beyond catastrophic," with over one million Palestinians receiving no food rations in August. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric highlighted critical shortages in food supplies and the dire conditions affecting medical facilities and infrastructure in Gaza.
In addition to these challenges, Dujarric reported ongoing hostilities and severe restrictions on medical and humanitarian aid in both Gaza and the West Bank, exacerbating the crisis faced by local populations.
The situation remains fluid as international bodies continue to monitor the impact of these conflicts on regional stability and humanitarian conditions.
