Iran calls for the release of Venezuela’s president Maduro
Iran on Monday called for the release of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was transferred to the United States following a high-profile U.S. military operation in Caracas.
Speaking at a weekly press conference in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaïl Baghaï strongly criticized the arrest, describing it as an illegal act. He stated that the president of a sovereign nation and his wife had been forcibly taken, arguing that such actions violate international norms.
Baghaï emphasized that Iran stands with the Venezuelan people, asserting that Maduro should be released and allowed to return to his country. Tehran, which maintains close political and economic ties with Caracas, has repeatedly opposed foreign military interventions and unilateral actions against allied governments.
The Iranian statement adds to growing international criticism of the U.S. operation, as several countries question its legality and potential consequences for regional and global stability.
