India relaxes kerosene regulations to address energy supply disruptions
The Indian government announced on Sunday a relaxation of petroleum safety and licensing regulations to accelerate the distribution of kerosene to households, responding to global energy supply disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the measures will allow ad‑hoc distribution of kerosene for cooking and lighting across 21 states and federal territories. The policy aims to ensure that households continue to have access to essential energy sources despite international supply challenges.
Officials emphasized that the regulatory adjustments are temporary and designed to maintain continuity in domestic energy availability while supporting vulnerable populations who rely on kerosene for everyday needs. The government is coordinating with local distributors to implement the measures efficiently and prevent shortages.
This initiative reflects broader efforts by India to secure energy supplies amid a volatile global market, demonstrating the importance of flexible policies to manage crises in essential commodities.
