Hong Kong bookstore owner arrested over Jimmy Lai biography
Hong Kong police reportedly arrested the owner and several staff members of a local bookstore for selling publications deemed “seditious,” including a biography of imprisoned media entrepreneur Jimmy Lai.
The bookstore, located in the city’s commercial district, was selling “The Troublemaker,” a biography written by a former business associate of Lai. The arrests were reported by local media broadcaster TVB.
Lai, founder of the pro-democracy newspaper Apple Daily, was sentenced earlier this year to a lengthy prison term for offenses related to national security, including collusion with foreign forces.
Authorities have stated that police actions will follow legal procedures and be based on the actual circumstances of each case. The bookstore displayed a notice indicating a temporary closure due to an emergency, while no immediate comment was available from the owner or staff regarding formal charges.
