Hitachi and Google Cloud expand alliance in physical AI security
Hitachi and Google Cloud have expanded their strategic partnership to accelerate the deployment of physical artificial intelligence systems and strengthen cybersecurity defenses against AI driven threats. The announcement builds on an initial agreement reached in May 2024 and extends cooperation into new security services and industrial applications.
The companies will jointly deliver next generation cybersecurity solutions through Hitachi’s Cyber Center of Excellence. The initiative integrates Google AI Threat Defense, which combines Wiz, Mandiant Consulting, and Gemini technologies, with Hitachi’s experience in critical infrastructure integration across rail, energy, and financial systems. The goal is to support organizations facing increasingly automated and fast moving cyberattacks.
The partnership also reflects growing concern over the speed of modern cyber intrusions. Research cited from the Mandiant M Trends 2026 report indicates that the median time between initial system access and lateral movement by attackers dropped from more than eight hours in 2022 to just 22 seconds in 2025. Exploits remain the leading entry point for attackers for the sixth consecutive year, accounting for 32 percent of intrusions, while voice phishing has increased to 11 percent.
Hitachi and Google Cloud also plan to expand deployment of field engineers who work directly with clients to validate artificial intelligence systems in real operational environments. The companies will strengthen Hitachi’s HMAX platform by integrating Google’s Gemini Enterprise tools to support autonomous operations in sectors such as manufacturing and infrastructure. Executives from both companies said the collaboration aims to help organizations deploy AI agents faster while maintaining secure environments for critical systems.
