Hakim Ziyech Begins Ankle Injury Treatment at Galatasaray Following Morocco’s AFCON Disappointment
The renowned Turkish football club, announced today that Moroccan football sensation Hakim Ziyech has initiated treatment for an ankle injury sustained while representing his national team at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2022.
Ziyech, who joined Galatasaray on loan from Chelsea in August 2022, suffered the injury during Morocco’s final group stage match against Zambia on January 25th. Comprehensive medical assessments confirmed severe ligament damage and bone bruising in his left ankle.
The 29-year-old attacking midfielder arrived in Istanbul on February 5th, following Morocco's unexpected elimination in the round of 16. Ziyech has commenced an intensive rehabilitation program under the guidance of Galatasaray’s medical staff in a bid to expedite his return to full fitness.
Galatasaray disclosed that Ziyech's injury involves stretched ligaments and syndesmosis in the ankle, with visible bone edema evident on scans. It is anticipated that he will undergo a rigorous regime of physiotherapy and training before being deemed fit for competitive action.
His absence proved to be a significant setback for Morocco's aspirations of clinching their second AFCON title. The Atlas Lions succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against South Africa in the knockout round, sorely missing the influence of Ziyech, who played a pivotal role in their impressive World Cup campaign.
Ziyech opted to join Galatasaray in pursuit of regular playing time after experiencing a downturn in his fortunes at Chelsea.
