Gaza's Displaced Face Severe Weather Crisis Amid Ongoing Conflict

As 2024 began, displaced Palestinians in Gaza confronted severe flooding that submerged temporary shelters and forced the closure of UNICEF medical facilities. The harsh weather conditions have intensified the humanitarian crisis, particularly affecting those in Central Gaza's displacement camps.

Residents struggle to protect their limited belongings from rising water levels, with many digging makeshift drainage trenches around their tents. The flooding has transformed camp grounds into muddy terrain, destroying essential items and making living conditions increasingly difficult.

"We're drowning. Enough pain, enough suffering," said a survivor who escaped Tuesday's airstrike with her daughters, standing in water-filled shelter. The strike claimed at least 28 Palestinian lives.

The crisis continues to escalate as military operations persist across multiple locations, including Jabalia camp, Bureij refugee camp, Gaza City, and Khan Younis. The situation has become particularly dire for families facing dual threats: hypothermia claiming infant lives while continuous bombardment endangers those seeking refuge in displacement camps.
