France says military action in Iran is not a preferred option
France has stated that military intervention in Iran is not its favored course of action, despite growing international concern over the violent repression of protests that have shaken the country in recent weeks.
Speaking during a political interview on Sunday, France’s junior minister for the armed forces emphasized that Paris supports the Iranian population but believes the country’s future must be decided by its own people. She stressed that while France stands alongside Iranian citizens, it does not seek to impose solutions through military force.
French officials underlined the importance of giving visibility to the situation in Iran, particularly as access to independent information has been severely restricted. Internet shutdowns imposed by Iranian authorities have made it difficult to document alleged large-scale abuses and verify reports from inside the country.
The protests initially emerged over rising living costs before evolving into a broader movement challenging Iran’s political leadership. Analysts describe the unrest as one of the most serious challenges faced by the Islamic Republic in decades.
While the United States has previously hinted at possible military measures, recent statements from Washington suggest a more cautious approach. France, for its part, continues to favor diplomatic pressure and international advocacy in support of human rights rather than armed intervention.
