France’s Eiffage to build Morocco Noor Atlas solar plants
Construction has begun on a major solar energy initiative in Morocco involving four photovoltaic power plants under the Noor Atlas program, marking a new phase in the country’s renewable energy expansion.
Eiffage, through its energy systems subsidiary, is responsible for the design, supply, construction, installation and commissioning of the facilities. The company is also tasked with operating and maintaining the plants for seven years after completion.
The project is being developed on behalf of Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy and forms part of Morocco’s strategy to strengthen domestic electricity production and reduce dependence on external energy sources. The four solar plants will be located in the northeast of the country and will reach a combined capacity of 225 megawatt-peak.
Construction work started in early 2026, with delivery scheduled for mid-2027. The initiative is part of a broader national program that includes six solar sites across Morocco with a total planned capacity of 305 megawatts. Officials aim to expand grid reliability while accelerating the integration of renewable sources into the national energy mix.
Morocco’s long-term energy roadmap targets 52 percent renewable electricity by 2030. Current projections suggest the country could surpass earlier estimates, driven by continued investment in solar infrastructure and large-scale public-private partnerships.
The Noor Atlas development aligns with wider efforts to digitalize and modernize energy planning, including the deployment of geographic information systems for renewable resource mapping. The program reinforces Morocco’s position as a regional hub for solar energy development.
