Essaouira Harmonizes with Eclectic Sounds at Jazz Under the Argan Tree Festival
The rhythmic pulse of Africa and jazz is set to reverberate through Essaouira, Morocco, as the annual Jazz sous l'Arganier (Jazz Under the Argan Tree) festival returns for its seventh edition from December 27-29.
Organized by the Essaouira Mogador Association, the festival unfolds in the historic venue of Dar Souiri, strategically capitalizing on the seasonal influx of tourists. According to organizers, this multi-day event aims to illuminate Essaouira's vibrant cultural offerings through exceptional live performances.
Commencing the festivities on the 27th is the esteemed Oud musician, Driss El Maloumi, captivating audiences with his soulful melodies. The evening programming then transitions to the genre-blending sounds of Diappa-zone, skillfully weaving traditional Gnaoua songs into their repertoire.
Thursday promises electric discoveries as guitarist Othman El Khelloufi infuses jazz influences into his performance. The festival crescendos on the 29th, promising attendees a night of lively dancing with Jazz b'LOOZ's infectious salsa-swing fusion, complemented by hints of Gnaoua.
Closing the three-day celebration is the renowned singer Majid Bekkas, widely acknowledged as a master of contemporary chaabi music. With an eclectic musical lineup that mirrors Morocco's rich cultural heritage, this year's Jazz Under the Argan Tree festival is poised to captivate both visitors and locals alike with its enchanting melodies under the starlit sky.
