Emmanuel Macron welcomes Quebec’s new premier to strengthen strategic cooperation
Emmanuel Macron welcomed the new premier of Quebec, Christine Fréchette, to the Élysée Palace on Monday during her first official visit to France since taking office.
The meeting focused on strengthening economic and technological cooperation between France and Quebec, particularly in strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, aerospace, transportation, quantum technologies, and critical minerals.
After the discussions, Emmanuel Macron stated that France and Quebec share more than a common language, highlighting their shared history, strong cultural ties, and economic ambitions. He also emphasized the importance of giving new momentum to the unique relationship between the two partners.
Christine Fréchette described Quebec as a reliable ally for France in several key industries, including defense, cybersecurity, energy, and artificial intelligence. She stressed that Quebec possesses the expertise needed to develop beneficial partnerships with French companies and institutions.
The visit also reaffirmed the shared commitment of both governments to promoting the French language, cultural diversity, and the values of the Francophonie on the international stage.
Quebec holds a unique status within Canada due to its French-speaking population, distinct cultural identity, and political institutions. With nearly nine million inhabitants, the province remains one of France’s closest partners in North America.
